The Best Health Care System - 2121 Words

Now that the best health care system in the world (Faguet, 2013, p.7) has been demolished after the passing of the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act (ACA) in March of 2010, how have Americans allowed these historical problems to happen to them? Much of the legislation was written to confuse the average American so that they would not understand what was being done to them (Gruber, 2014). The ACA was more than 2000 pages in length and most, if not all, of the members of Congress did not even read the bill before they voted on it. The House Speaker leader at the time, Nancy Pelosi, went on record saying that We have to pass the bill to find out what is in it. Quite the contrary, as many Republicans are business owners that sell health care insurance to the general public. Of course they want to sell more insurance to more people, however, the socialized medicine plan is destructive to the freedom of the individual to choose their health care coverage and find affordable health care plans for themselves by being able to cross state lines and choose policies from a diverse insurance market. By forcing Americans into a government run program with a one-size-fits-all plan, choice is completely gone and high taxes and expensive insurance plans have been created with extremely high deductibles that many families can no longer afford. All this, in order to pay for a small segment of society that was previously uninsured. The 40 hour work week was destroyed and replaced by a 29 hour work week so that many small businesses and big businesses would not have to pay for health care policies for their employees. There has been a great deal of redistribution of wealth with the passing of the ACA. The Supreme Court in the National Federation of Independent Business et al. v. Sebelius, Secretary of Health and Human Services, et al., decided on June 28, 2012, that the ACA was a tax by ruling that the ACA was constitutional.
